Nevada Rides

Neada Map

I have lived in Dayton, Carson City and Reno during my time in Nevada. I really enjoy living and riding in this area. The Sierras present challenging and beautiful rides as do the eastern ranges to Virginia City and beyond. The climate here is great. You get acclimated to altitude and the warm dry conditions are quite comfortable for riding, even in the warmest of times because there is very little humidity. Do not misunderstand it can get plenty hot around here but most of the time is very comfortable and you can start and complete your rides early to avoid the hottest times of the day. If you climb the mountains the temperature is 10-15 degrees cooler year round. The Sierras are some of the most beautiful and toughest mountains to ride a bike in this country. I have listed some of these rides in the California section of this site and more will as I travel the California Sierras in the near future. Much of Nevada is high desert. It can look barren in places and rugged as well. I find it quite relaxing to ride in these areas provided that I use some common sense when doing so. First, carry plenty of water or have money to buy it as you need to. Second, carry food (a power bar and energy gels work well) because you never know. I also think it is wise to carry a cell phone in the event of emergencies. It has come in handy a couple of times for me. For the most part the roads are light to moderate as far as traffic goes. I do not think you can avoid climbing when you ride here but you can control how much you do by the route you choose. My riding experience is confined to Northern Nevada. I have only ridden in Southern Nevada once. Enjoy the area it is full of interesting places to ride as well as things to see and do. Take advantage of the wonderful opportunities this region has to offer.
