Wellington - Bridgeport-Wellington
Sweetwater Ride
This ride begins in Wellington, NV. Head south on the Wellington Cutoff to NV route 338. Turn right and climb toward the Sweetwater Mountains on your right. This will be a steady gradual climb to the summit which is marked. Once the summit is made it is a rapid downhill to the California state line. Here the road becomes CA 182 (also called Sweetwater Road). You will go through rolling countryside all the way past Bridgeport reservoir right into downtown Bridgeport, CA. I would advise refilling your bottles and eating a sandwich here. Rest a while and enjoy the views then head back the way you came. This is a long ride (84 miles) so saving your energy for the return trip is advised. It can be windy on this ride. Especially heading back to Wellington in the afternoon so be prepared. With the exception of some wind this is a very pleasant and scenic ride. The Sweetwater Mountains are quite beautiful and have snow on them almost year round. Be sure to take enough food and water as there are not places to stop between Wellington and Bridgeport.
