City View

Reno, NV

Reno is a great place to ride a bike. There are good rides for all ages, and skill levels even within the city limits. You can do as much or as little climbing in any given ride as you desire. I have done rides with less than 500 feet of climbing in 35 miles and as much as 6000 feet depending upon were you go. This elevation difference is even apparent within the same basic route. By varying a route slightly you can add good sized hills all along the way. If you are a beginning rider there is the river path through downtown and the Double Diamond area where the terrain is flat and there is plenty of room for bicyclists. For the more accomplished rider you can ride hills or flat or a combination in several parts of town. The advantage is that you can vary your ride scenery and still get challenges no matter which direction you choose. The individual rides in this section of pages are rides that I routinely do myself. When using the maps please note that for the local rides I begin and end at my residence and the maps reflect this. These maps and directions are provided as guide. They will allow you to learn some of the street names you may need to make the ride fun and interesting. This section also includes rides to Verdi because this is the most popular ride route in Reno. Plan the distance you would like to ride, the route and pick you start and end point accordingly. A good comfortable ten mile ride is much better than a fifteen or twenty mile that may be outside of your endurance and strength level. It is easy to build up your endurance; all you have to do is ride. This is a metro area. Obey the traffic laws. Another advantage riding here is that you can easily vary your route and avoid major traffic areas. There is always a back way to get to where you are going. Your streets may not be depicted on these pages but you can get to any of these areas directly or indirectly depending upon your own abilities and desires. Remember riding should be fun. I feel very fortunate to live in a place with a diverse landscape and varying challenges when it comes to riding a bike. Enjoy yourself. Reno is a beautiful place to ride.
